The Magic Of The Christmas Ornament
It’s funny how naked a Christmas tree looks without any sort of ornamentation. Having a Christmas tree in your house without decorating it is like having a Barbie you don’t dress- stupid. Christmas ornaments are a tradition as old as the Christmas tree itself.
For generations people have been decking their halls and their trees with all different kinds of baubles, ornaments, bulbs, lights, and garland. Seeing a Christmas tree without Christmas ornaments is horrifying, and should be reserved for mature audiences only! No child should have to spend Christmas without some sort of Christmas ornament hanging from the Christmas tree.
What sort of ornament should you have? Well, here is a list that I have compiled containing information on some of the Christmas ornaments you chose for your tree.
Family Heirloom Christmas Ornaments
There are some families that have very special Christmas ornaments that have been passed down from generation to generation. Some were made by hand by a relative. Some were a very special gift to a loved one. Some were just special to the person. No matter what the reason, family heirloom Christmas ornaments always hold a special place on the Christmas tree, and in the hearts of the family members. There are some heirloom ornaments that are hand woven lace creations, some are cast in some kind of precious metal, and some are made of wood- carved into a celebrated Christmas character. For every heirloom ornament there is a story; there is some reason why an ornament has been in the family for years. If you have such an ornament, cherish it. Someday, you too will pass this ornament down to someone you love.
Handmade Christmas Ornaments
For those of you who have the crafting gene, you can make a Christmas ornament for your Christmas tree. It can be made from fabric, plastic, Popsicle sticks, old gum, painted glass, or even rubber bands. It doesn’t matter what the ornament is made of as long as it is made by you.
Generic Plastic Bulbs
Even if you have family heirloom ornaments, and handmade ornaments, chances are you are going to need a few more ornaments to fill up the extra space on your Christmas tree. Purchasing generic plastic bulbs is a good way to add some color and volume to an otherwise dull tree. These bulbs come in a variety of colors and shapes, but rarely come with their own hooks. Say it with me… “cheapskates”!
Cheesy Retail/Fast Food Ornaments
These particular Christmas ornaments are created by stores and fast food places specifically for that Christmas season. They are creatio imago of certain well loved or well known characters. There are even some animated movies that promote themselves by making their most recognizable characters into Christmas ornaments. As cute as these ornaments are, they should not be used for more than a year. Cheesy ornament rollover is not okay.
Now that you have read, and enjoyed, this list of ornaments, you can make the creative decisions necessary to ensure that your Christmas tree isn’t naked this holiday season!
